Aamir Khan described the current situation in Indian cinema as “very unfortunate” and stressed the need for more movie screens across the country. “India has the potential for many more theatres,” he said.

The 60-year-old actor also pointed to the impact of OTT platforms on box office performance. He explained that when films are made available on streaming services just 45 days after their theatrical release, it discourages audiences from going to the cinema. “The window between theatrical and OTT releases is too short. You’re undercutting your own business,” he said.

Aamir emphasized that the rapid shift to digital platforms is a key factor when questioning why films aren’t performing well in theatres. “You’re essentially telling viewers not to come to cinemas—that’s why business is suffering,” he noted.

He concluded by criticizing the current release strategy, calling it fundamentally flawed. “Whether a film is good or bad is a different issue; but the existing business model itself doesn’t make sense,” he said.
