Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened lower on Tuesday (June 3, 2025), pressured by ongoing geopolitical tensions and uncertainties in global trade. Investor sentiment was further dampened by sustained foreign fund outflows.

In early trading, the BSE Sensex dropped 194.65 points to 81,179.10, while the NSE Nifty slipped 62.35 points to 24,654.25. Among the major losers on the Sensex were Adani Ports, Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Hindustan Unilever. On the other hand, gains were seen in stocks like Eternal, Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, and IndusInd Bank.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹2,589.47 crore on Monday (June 2), as per stock exchange data.

“With ongoing volatility driven by geopolitical issues, trade disputes, and tariff-related concerns, the market is expected to remain choppy. Investors may continue with a buy-on-dips strategy,” said V.K. Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.

In the broader Asian market, indices such as South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei 225, China’s SSE Composite, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were trading in the green.

Meanwhile, U.S. markets closed higher on Monday, and Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose by 0.57% to $65 per barrel.

On Monday, the Sensex had fallen as much as 796.75 points (0.97%) during intraday trade to 80,654.26, before recovering somewhat to close 77.26 points (0.09%) lower at 81,373.75. The Nifty also declined, ending 34.10 points (0.14%) down at 24,716.60.
