On August 1, 2025, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices were raised by nearly 3%, while commercial LPG cylinder prices saw a reduction of ₹33.50, reflecting recent fluctuations in global energy benchmarks. According to state-run oil companies, the ATF price in Delhi, home to one of India’s busiest airports, was increased by ₹2,677.88 per kilolitre to ₹92,021.93 per kl.

This marks the second consecutive monthly hike in jet fuel prices, following a steep 7.5% rise in July. Previously, between April and June, prices had been slashed by a total of ₹12,239.17 per kl, but the recent hikes amounting to ₹8,949.38 per kl have negated a large portion of that relief. The latest increase is attributed to a rise in global crude oil prices, fuelled by geopolitical tensions and ongoing trade disputes.

ATF prices also rose in other major cities — to ₹86,077.14 per kl in Mumbai, ₹95,512.26 in Chennai, and ₹95,164.90 in Kolkata. Prices vary across cities due to differences in local taxes such as VAT. The hike is expected to add further financial pressure on airlines, where fuel accounts for roughly 40% of operational costs. Airlines have not yet commented on the impact.

Conversely, commercial LPG prices were reduced for the fifth straight month. A 19-kg cylinder in Delhi now costs ₹1,631.50, down from the previous rate. Cumulatively, prices have dropped by ₹171.50 since April. This trend is due to weak global LPG demand during summer.

Domestic LPG rates for households, however, remain steady at ₹853 for a 14.2-kg cylinder, following a ₹50 hike in April. Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged since a ₹2 per litre cut in March 2024. Petrol currently costs ₹94.72 per litre and diesel ₹87.62 in Delhi. Fuel prices are revised monthly based on international benchmarks and currency exchange rates.
