Train Ticket Booking Rules 2025: The Railway Ministry has announced that from October 1, e-Aadhaar verification will be mandatory to book general tickets through the IRCTC website and app. During the first 15 minutes of reservation opening, only users with Aadhaar-linked accounts will be able to book tickets.

Train Ticket Booking Online: If you are planning to travel by train during Chhath, Diwali, or any major festival, it’s important to know the new booking rules. Indian Railways has recently made major changes to IRCTC ticket booking. Now, it is compulsory to link your IRCTC account with Aadhaar.

New Rules for Tatkal Ticket Booking

From July 15, 2025, Aadhaar-based OTP verification will be mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets. When booking through the IRCTC app or website, an OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked with Aadhaar. Without entering this OTP, tickets cannot be booked. This step has been taken to prevent fake bookings and ticket touts.

Change in General Ticket Booking from October 1

From October 1, e-Aadhaar verification will also be mandatory for general ticket reservations. During the first 15 minutes after the reservation window opens, only Aadhaar-linked users will be able to book tickets online. However, at the station ticket counters, no identity proof will be required for buying tickets.

Rules for Agent Booking

Now, IRCTC agents will not be able to book Tatkal tickets during the first 10 minutes after the Tatkal window opens. AC ticket bookings between 10:00 and 10:30 AM and non-AC ticket bookings between 11:00 and 11:30 AM will be exclusively reserved for passengers. This will benefit common travelers.

How to Link Aadhaar

Passengers booking tickets online will have to link their IRCTC account with Aadhaar. In the “My Account” section of the RailConnect app or website, enter your Aadhaar number and complete mobile OTP verification. After that, you can easily book both Tatkal and General tickets.

Important Points to Remember

•For general tickets, Aadhaar linking with the IRCTC account is mandatory.

•For Tatkal tickets, Aadhaar linking and OTP verification are compulsory.

•During festive seasons, this rule will help prevent fake bookings and provide relief to regular passengers.
