Badar Khan Suri, a student of India origin has been detained by the US immigration officials in close connection with Hamas.
Badar Khan Suri, an Indian pupil studying at Georgetown University is battling expatriation proceedings after being supposed “ dangerous ” to the US foreign policy under the Trump administration, his counsel said. The counsel said Suri has been arrested in Alexandria, Louisiana, and is awaiting a court date in immigration court.
Who's Badar Khan Suri?
Badar Khan Suri holds a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from an Indian university and presently resides in the US on a pupil visa. He's a post-doctoral fellow at Georgetown University's Alwaleed Bin Talal Centre for Muslim- Christian Understanding, which operates under the School of Foreign Service.
This semester, Suri has been tutoring a course at Georgetown on “ Majoritarianism and Minority Rights in South Asia. ”
He's married to Mapheze Saleh, a US citizen firstly from Gaza. According to Georgetown University's website, Saleh has contributed to Al Jazeera, a Qatari government-funded broadcaster, as well as Palestinian media outlets. She has also worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the conflict-stricken region.
What are the charges against him?
He has been indicted of having been working with the Palestinian militant organization, Hamas, and spreading its propaganda on social media. It’s also suspected that he has close ties with a suspected terrorist, who’s an elderly counsel to Hamas.
