Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sri Lanka on April 5, announced President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Parliament. The visit aims to finalize agreements made during President Dissanayake’s visit to Delhi last year, with a focus on strengthening bilateral ties. During the visit, construction on the Sampur Power Plant in Trincomalee will begin.
In a recent agreement between Sri Lanka and India, two solar power plants with capacities of 50 Megawatts (Stage 1) and 70 Megawatts (Stage 2) will be set up at Sampur. The project will be a joint venture between Sri Lanka's Ceylon Electricity Board and India’s National Thermal Power Corporation, replacing the earlier plan for a coal power plant at the same location.
