A Pakistani diplomat was denied entry and sent back, amid rumour that America would limit entry of Pakistani nationals.
Pakistan's envoy to Turkmenistan, KK Ahsan Wagan, was denied entry to the United States and deported from Los Angeles despite holding a valid visa. He was on vacation when U.S. immigration officials intercepted him, citing "controversial visa references" flagged in their database. However, the U.S. has not provided specific details regarding his deportation.
A spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the incident, stating that an immigration objection led to Wagan’s removal. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Secretary Amina Baloch have been informed, and Pakistan’s Los Angeles consulate has been directed to investigate the matter. Wagan may be recalled to Islamabad for a hearing.
A seasoned diplomat, Wagan previously served in Kathmandu and as Deputy Consul General in Los Angeles. While some reports suggest that administrative grievances from his earlier tenure in the U.S. might have played a role, officials have ruled out any diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
The incident comes amid speculation that the Trump administration may impose new travel restrictions on Pakistan, potentially limiting entry for its citizens.
