US-Based Indian-Origin Professors to Offer Mentorship for Indian Students

The Indian Embassy in Washington has launched a virtual mentoring initiative dubbed “MARG” (Mentoring for Academic Excellence and Research Guidance), which aims to connect Indian students and researchers with top colleges in the United States, particularly in smaller cities and towns.

The embassy’s press release begins: “The objective is to give Indian students and researchers exposure to the latest developments in their fields of study, as well as knowledge, career, skilling, and research opportunities from relevant experts across the US Indian-origin faculty from renowned US universities like Stanford, Purdue, the University of Maryland, and George Mason University are participating in the first round of this series.”

The growth of India’s academic, research, skill-building, and industrial ecosystem in critical and emerging technologies like semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, high-performance computing, quantum science and technology, bioengineering, clean energy, and advanced materials was highlighted by Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan during the series’ inaugural session.

Driven by the leadership of both countries, these areas are crucial to strengthening the academic, scientific, and technology collaboration between India and the US.

According to the Vice Chancellors and Directors of the participating Indian universities, these sessions will help both students and faculty engaged in teaching, skill development, and research in critical and emerging technology fields.

It is anticipated that the effort will offer professors and students working in these crucial disciplines of teaching, skill development, and research priceless insights and opportunities. Participants in MARG will have access to resources and guidance that will assist mold their academic and career paths.
