Union Home Minister Launches Digital Portal for Cooperative Societies in Maharashtra

Shri Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, launched the internet portal of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) office in Pune, Maharashtra. Among those in attendance were Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde and Union Minister of State for Ministry of Cooperation, Shri B L Verma.

Shri Amit Shah emphasised the importance of cooperatives in India, noting that the cooperative culture originated in Maharashtra and has since extended throughout the country. He emphasised the effectiveness of the cooperative model in states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.

The digital portal’s inauguration in Pune seeks to facilitate the digitization of the CRCS office, with a particular focus on Multi State Cooperatives. This move to digital operations will allow cooperative societies to execute duties such as branch opening, state enlargement, and auditing online.

Shri Shah emphasized the significance of modernizing the cooperative movement, as well as fostering openness and accountability in order for it to develop. He praised Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” vision, which seeks to improve the lives of the impoverished through cooperatives while also contributing to India’s economic success. The Ministry of Cooperation was founded with the goal of increasing transparency and accountability.

The new internet gateway will assist 1555 multi-state cooperative societies, with Maharashtra accounting for a sizable part. Shri Amit Shah also cited recent changes to the Multistate Cooperative Societies Act of 2022, which include election reforms, financial discipline measures, and accountability procedures. The goal is to eliminate nepotism and to involve young talent in the cooperative movement.

Shri Shah announced intentions to create 3 lakh new Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) across the country over the next five years, connecting rural areas to the cooperative network. The acceptance of a multidimensional storage system by the Union Cabinet would strengthen the cooperative movement even more.
