Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan announces a leadership overhaul aimed at streamlining decision-making and focusing on engineering and AI. Key chipmaking divisions now repo
Intel’s new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, is reshaping the company’s leadership structure to speed up decision-making and enhance focus on engineering and innovation. In a company-wide memo, Tan announced that key chipmaking divisions would report directly to him, bypassing an executive layer. This includes the data center and AI chip group, along with the personal computing chip division, which were previously overseen by Michelle Johnston Holthaus, now CEO of Intel Products. As part of the changes, Sachin Katti, head of networking chips, has been promoted to Chief Technology and AI Officer, replacing Greg Lavender, who is retiring.
Tan expressed his commitment to simplifying Intel’s hierarchy and driving innovation, acknowledging that organizational complexity had hindered progress. He also emphasized the importance of a leaner, engineering-focused company to compete in the AI chip market, where Nvidia dominates. Intel is also searching for a new Head of Government Affairs amid rising geopolitical challenges.
