In a major update, Instagram has announced it will soon allow users to rearrange posts on their profile grid, giving individuals more freedom to customise how their content is displayed. The feature, confirmed by Instagram head Adam Mosseri on June 12, will break the current chronological layout, allowing users to highlight preferred posts without relying solely on the pin option. This long-awaited change is aimed at helping users craft a more aesthetically pleasing and personalised profile experience.
Alongside profile customisation, Instagram is testing a new feature that allows users to post content to their profiles quietly, meaning it won’t appear in followers’ feeds. This feature is designed for people who want to share without broadcasting every post. The platform is also expanding the availability of Trial Reels to all users. Originally rolled out in December for select creators, Trial Reels allow content to reach random viewers instead of existing followers, helping creators experiment outside their typical content style. Instagram claims that 40% of those who used this feature began posting reels more frequently and enjoyed up to 80% more engagement from new audiences.
Additionally, Instagram is enhancing user experience with more creative tools. A new Rosalia-inspired font will soon be available for Stories, styled after the singer’s handwriting. The app is also rolling out Spotify integration, letting users instantly share what they’re listening to via Notes. For creators, Instagram is launching an initiative called “Drafts” to provide financial backing, collaboration opportunities, and idea development support. These new features collectively represent Instagram’s continued push to support creative freedom and better content engagement across its global platform.
