Suryakumar Yadav: New Captain for Team India in T20Is Against Australia?

In a decisive move, Suryakumar Yadav is set to lead Team India in the upcoming T20I series against Australia, following the sidelining of Hardik Pandya due to injury. The Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that the dynamic batter is the likely choice, adding another feather to his cap after an impressive stint in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023.

Suryakumar Yadav, currently occupying the pivotal No. 6 spot, has been instrumental in India’s journey in the World Cup. As the team gears up for the final showdown on November 19 in Ahmedabad, eyes are already on the subsequent T20Is commencing on November 23 in Visakhapatnam. Suryakumar Yadav, alongside other dual-format players, will swiftly transition from the World Cup to the T20I series against the Aussies.

The absence of Hardik Pandya, still on the path to complete fitness, prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider alternatives for captaincy. The PTI had initially named Ruturaj Gaikwad and Suryakumar Yadav as potential leaders, with recent reports strongly indicating that the latter is likely to don the captain’s hat.

While Ruturaj Gaikwad, with a notable triumph at the Asian Games, remains a close contender, the experience that Suryakumar Yadav brings to the table makes him a formidable choice to steer the Indian squad. The cricketing maestro, known for his astute game sense, is poised to guide India through the T20Is against Australia.

Speaking anonymously to PTI, a senior BCCI source emphasized Hardik Pandya’s need for more time to attain full fitness, making his return probable during the South Africa series. The decision to elevate Suryakumar Yadav to the captaincy aligns with the team’s strategy for the upcoming challenges.
