Special Air India Flight Arrives in Barbados, India’s World Cup Winning Team

India’s victorious T20 World Cup squad from 2024 is finally set to depart from Barbados after being stranded due to Hurricane Beryl. The team, along with support staff and BCCI officials, faced delays as the airport shut down following the final match on June 29. A special Air India flight has now arrived in Barbados to bring them back home.

Led by Rohit Sharma, the Indian team clinched a thrilling victory against South Africa by seven runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. However, they couldn’t leave the island due to airport closures and flight cancellations caused by Hurricane Beryl’s landfall.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been working tirelessly to arrange the team’s return, facing multiple delays in securing a flight. Reports indicate the team will land at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on July 4, early morning around 4 to 5 AM IST, barring further delays.

After the Barbados airport resumed operations on July 2, the team’s departure was scheduled initially for July 2 local time but faced subsequent delays. The expected arrival time in India is now adjusted to around 1 AM local time on July 3 (10:30 AM IST).

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has remained with the team throughout, ensuring their smooth return. Upon arrival in New Delhi, the team is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is likely to honor and felicitate the players and staff for their achievement.

Additionally, three players from the squad – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Shivam Dube – are set to join the T20I series against Zimbabwe. They may miss the initial matches due to their delayed travel plans following the felicitation ceremony.
