School closures in Delhi-NCR and northern India; students transfer to online education due to heavy rain

Recently, Delhi, the north-state of India, and the Delhi-NCR region have experienced rainy conditions. As a result of this scenario, schools were forced to close. There are ten schools in Civil Lines and seven in Shahadra. Government and private schools in flooded areas have been ordered to close.

Due to a flood-like condition, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has closed 10 schools in low-lying portions of the Civil Lines Zone, six in the Shahadra (South) Zone, and one in the Shahadra (North) Zone. Students will be able to attend online classes.

The Yamuna River broke its all-time high of 207.83 meters. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, has declared school, college, and university closures until Sunday, with all government employees working from home save for essential activities. A memo to private enterprises encouraging remote work will be issued soon.

Due to rising Yamuna river flood levels, the Gautam Buddha Nagar district government has stated that schools would be closed on July 14. Due to the heavy rainfall, Uttarakhand, including Chamoli, declared a holiday today. Punjab’s government, private, and aided schools will be closed till July 16, according to state education minister Harjot Singh Bains, who announced the closure on Twitter.

Continuous rains, flash floods in some regions, and flood-like conditions in others continue to batter sections of north India, including Delhi-NCR, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.  Schools were also closed in numerous north Indian states on July 10 due to severe rainfall.
