Rahul Dravid’s Contract Extension as India’s Head Coach Welcomed by Gautam Gambhir

In a move aimed at maintaining continuity after India’s impressive performance in the ODI World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) extended the contract of head coach Rahul Dravid and his support staff. Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir congratulated Dravid on the extension, expressing optimism about India’s upcoming challenges, particularly the T20 World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir, speaking to ANI, emphasized the significance of stability in the coaching staff, especially with the T20 World Cup on the horizon, just seven months away. Gambhir stated, “It’s a good thing because the T20 World Cup is around the corner. It’s what 7 months away. You don’t want to change the entire support staff, and it is good that Rahul has accepted it. Hopefully, we can continue to dominate and play good cricket, what India has done for quite a long period of time.”

The BCCI’s decision to extend Dravid’s contract comes after India’s senior side showcased an outstanding performance in the ODI World Cup, winning 10 consecutive games before losing in the final. While the board did not specify the duration of Dravid’s new tenure in its press release, it emphasized providing him with full backing and support in his pursuit of winning the ICC Trophy, which has eluded India for the last decade.

Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, acknowledged the extraordinary World Cup campaign and praised Dravid for creating the right platform for the team’s success. In a statement, Shah said, “Having won 10 consecutive games before the final, our World Cup campaign was nothing short of extraordinary, and the head coach (Dravid) deserves appreciation for setting up the right platform for the team to flourish.”

The decision to retain Dravid aligns with the board’s commitment to sustained success at the international level, and Dravid will play a crucial role in preparing the team for the challenges ahead, including the T20 World Cup.
