Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commented on Udhayanidhi Stalin’s recent statement regarding ‘Sanatan Dharma,’ which has sparked controversy in Indian political circles. PM Modi emphasized the need for a “proper response” to Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks.
PM Modi’s statement comes after Udhayanidhi Stalin, a Tamil Nadu minister, raised concerns about the exclusion of President of India Droupadi Murmu from the inauguration of the new Parliament building, citing it as an example of discrimination by practitioners of Sanatan Dharma.
Udhayanidhi Stalin has stated that he is willing to face legal consequences for his comments, and there are reports of efforts to seek the Tamil Nadu Governor’s approval to take action against him.
Recently, an FIR was registered against Udhayanidhi Stalin and Priyank Kharge, the son of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. They were booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for their remarks.
Additionally, a poster war has erupted between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Coimbatore, with both parties using posters to attack each other over this issue. The DMK criticized Ayodhya’s head seer Paramhans Acharya for allegedly issuing a death threat to Udhyanidhi, while the BJP reiterated its support for Sanatan Dharma.
Udhayanidhi Stalin’s statement has sparked widespread controversy, with several BJP leaders and temple priests condemning his “anti-Sanatan” remarks. However, Udhayanidhi has stated that he remains unaffected by the criticism and is ready to reiterate his comments.
The BJP has demanded an apology from DMK leaders and has alleged that an “anti-Sanatan” agenda was discussed during an opposition bloc meeting in Mumbai earlier this month.
