Following his divorce from first wife Cindy Silva in November 1994, the 68-year-old actor and director, best known for his roles in Yellowstone and Dances with Wolves, has ended his second marriage.
Mr. Costner and Ms. Baumgartner met in 1998 and married on the actor’s ranch in Colorado in 2004.The couple is now requesting shared custody of their three children, ages 12, 14, and 15, citing cryptic ‘irreconcilable issues’ in court records.
“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond Mr. Costner’s control have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage,” stated Costner’s spokesperson Arnold Robinson in a statement. After Costner’s first marriage cost him an estimated $80 million, the couple is said to have signed a detailed prenuptial agreement. Costner, a two-time Academy Award winner, had been married to childhood love Ms Silva for 16 years, after meeting as students at California State University and eloping in 1978.
The actor had three children from his previous marriage, and he also had a son from a brief romance with Bridget Rooney in 1996.
His first marriage ended amid accusations of an affair with a hula dancer while filming the multi-million dollar flop Waterworld in Hawaii.
According to a document by Mr Costner’s counsel, Ms Baumgartner is not seeking spousal support as part of the divorce process, with costs instead “payable to petitioner pursuant to the terms of the parties’ Premarital Agreement.”
In recent years, the actor has received great acclaim for his current performance in the neo-western drama Yellowstone, for which he won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series Drama in January 2023. As it enters its fifth season, the programme has generated numerous spin-off shows, despite speculations that conflict between Costner and showrunner Taylor Sheridan may spell the end of its life.
