Amit Shah said that the 4% Muslim reservation was unconstitutional and that the BJP had repealed it.

Union home minister Amit Shah said on Monday that there is no provision in the Constitution for religious reservation, and that the 4% reservation for Muslims was unconstitutional, and that the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Karnataka had removed it.

“There is no provision in our Constitution for religious discrimination.” With much deliberation, I made a reservation within a reservation…Before the end of the Karnataka election campaign, Siddaramaiah must clarify that if the Congress increases the reservation for Muslims from 4% to 6%, who will lose their reservation, Shah said news agency ANI in an interview.

Earlier, speaking at a public rally in Hunagunda, Shah stated, “The BJP has reinforced national security by prohibiting the Popular Front of India (PFI), but the Congress party is against… The BJP would neither accept Muslim reservations or lower Lingayat reservations in the state.”

Shah went on to say of Congress, “Congress makes false promises everywhere and loses elections.” They support the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and the Popular Front of India (PFI), which the people of Karnataka despise and are outraged about.”

Shah expressed confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s win in the upcoming Karnataka elections, saying the party will return to power with an overwhelming majority.

“I have toured all regions of Karnataka and we can witness eagerness for a double-engineered government in the state,” Shah said of the state’s poll-bound government. This will result in votes for the party.”

The 224-member Karnataka parliament will go to the elections on May 10, and the ballots will be counted on May 13. The majority threshold for forming a government is 113 seats. Monday is the penultimate day of election campaigning.
