ISRO Releases Images Captured by Chandrayaan-3 Mission

ISRO has released two images taken by the Chandrayaan-3 mission. The first image depicts Earth from the perspective of the Lander Imager (LI) Camera. The image was taken on July 14, the same day as the launch of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
On August 6, the Lander Horizontal Velocity Camera (LHVC) aboard the spacecraft captured this image of the Moon. “Imaged by a Lander Imager (LI) camera on the day of the launch.”

A day after the Lunar Orbit Insertion, the Lander Horizontal Velocity Camera (LHVC) was launched.

SAC and LEOS created the LI and LHV cameras, respectively,” ISRO said.

ISRO stated earlier on Tuesday that the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft made significant progress towards the Moon’s surface on Wednesday, following an extra orbit reduction procedure.

After a July 14 launch, India’s ambitious Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft successfully entered lunar orbit on August 5.

The upcoming move is scheduled for August 14 between 11.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m., according to ISRO. On Sunday, ISRO performed a similar orbit reduction procedure.

As the mission progresses, ISRO is carrying out a series of manoeuvres to gradually lower Chandrayaan-3’s orbit and align it with the lunar poles.

According to PTI, quoting ISRO sources, two more orbit reduction manoeuvres are planned to get the spacecraft closer to the Moon.

A series of operations is scheduled for August 14 and 16 in order to achieve a 100 kilometre orbit. Following that, the landing module, which includes both the lander and the rover, will separate from the propulsion module.

Following this separation, the lander is expected to go through a “deboost” process to slow its speed before landing gently on the Moon’s south pole region on August 23.

ISRO has gradually elevated the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into increasingly distant orbits from Earth over the course of three weeks and five manoeuvres since its launch on July 14.
