A woman Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Friday morning, police officials said. The clash occurred in a forested area under the Chhotebethiya police station jurisdiction, where teams from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF) were conducting an anti-Naxal operation. The operation was launched after receiving intelligence about the presence of Maoist cadres on the opposite bank of the Kotri river.
Kanker’s Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela stated that the security forces focused their search between Amatola and Kalpar villages based on actionable leads. During the combing operation, they encountered suspected Naxalites who opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The operation resulted in the death of a woman Naxalite, whose body and a weapon were recovered from the site. The identity of the deceased insurgent has not been disclosed yet.
Intermittent gunfire is still being reported from the area, indicating that the security operation is ongoing. Authorities are continuing their search to secure the region fully. Chhattisgarh remains one of the states most affected by Maoist insurgency, with security forces regularly undertaking operations to neutralize armed groups and maintain law and order in forested and remote regions. Further information will be released once the operation concludes and the area is declared secure.
