Recalling the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the attackers had targeted the very dignity of the nation's women by questioning their religion, symbolized by the 'sindoor' (vermilion) they wear.
Although the bullets were fired in Jammu and Kashmir, the PM remarked, they wounded the hearts of all 1.4 billion Indians.
Referencing his earlier statement “hot sindoor runs in my veins,” PM Modi issued a stern message to Pakistan and terror outfits. He emphasized that every Indian pledged to stand united and deliver a strong response, one that terrorists would never forget. That promise, he said, had now been fulfilled—thanks to the people's support and the courage of India's armed forces. He added that the Army, Navy, and Air Force coordinated so effectively that Pakistan was compelled to retreat.
Speaking at a rally in Deshnoke, Rajasthan, the Prime Minister declared that in retaliation to the April 22 attack, India had carried out Operation Sindoor, in which nine major terrorist hideouts were destroyed within just 22 minutes.
Recalling a speech made after a past airstrike, Modi said he had vowed not to let the nation fall or bend. Now, standing on the soil of Rajasthan, he proclaimed, "Those who tried to erase our vermilion have been turned to dust." He stressed that the bloodshed caused by the terrorists had been avenged, and those who believed India would remain silent are now in hiding. The ones who once boasted of their weapons, he added, now lie buried under the rubble.
PM Modi described Operation Sindoor as a new manifestation of Indian justice—not just an act of revenge, but a reflection of a stronger, more capable India. “This is not just anger—it is the fierce strength of a new India,” he stated.
About Operation Sindoor:
Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor was a high-intensity, coordinated strike by India's Army, Navy, and Air Force against nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The targets were linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Hizbul Mujahideen, and Lashkar-e-Taiba. The mission was in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people, mostly civilians, and led to the elimination of over 100 terrorists.
Following India’s strikes, Pakistan attempted retaliation through shelling and drone attacks. However, the Indian armed forces and air defence systems successfully thwarted all such efforts.
After four days of heavy cross-border hostilities, the two nuclear-armed nations agreed to a ceasefire. However, India’s sanctions against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, remain in place.
