Bengaluru Police have arrested four individuals, including Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) marketing head Nikhil Sosale, in connection with the stampede that occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium following the team’s IPL 2025 victory. The incident left 11 people dead and over 60 injured. Sosale was detained at Mumbai airport while allegedly attempting to leave the city. Authorities said he announced a victory parade on social media without police permission, which led to an uncontrollable crowd gathering.
According to the police, misleading social media posts by the RCB marketing team drew thousands of fans to the stadium area. Despite warnings from law enforcement, the posts were not removed, resulting in overcrowding and a stampede. Police stated that no official permissions had been granted for such a public event, and the responsibility for the crowd mismanagement lies with the organizers.
The other arrested individuals are Kiran Kumar, Senior Event Manager, and Sunil Mathew, Vice President of Business Affairs at DNA Entertainment Networks—an event firm associated with the celebration planning. Another staff member from the organizing team has also been taken into custody. The action follows directives from Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also ordered suspension of several police officials for negligence. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have emphasized the need for stricter compliance with public safety regulations during large gatherings.
