Fatima Nafees challenges CBI’s closure report, looking justice for missing son Najeeb Ahmed after eight years of unanswered questions.
Fatima Nafees, a mother from Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, has been living with undecided questions ever since her son, Najeeb Ahmed, went missing in October 2016. Najeeb, a biotechnology student at JNU, vanished after a scuffle with some students, and his mother has since been fighting for justice. On Thursday, the court will finally decide whether to accept the CBI’s closure report or to reopen the investigation.
Fatima has refused to accept the CBI’s claim that her son vanished due to mental wellness issues. Instead, she filed a strong legal challenge, listing major flaws in the investigation. She marked out that the nine students involved in the scuffle were not seriously questioned and that key evidence, like medical reports and witness statements, was ignored.
She also rejected the mental health theory presented by the CBI, saying it didn’t explain her son’s complete disappearance. Despite health struggles, Fatima has kept her fight alive attending court hearings, filing petitions, and lighting a candle every year on October 15 at JNU in Najeeb’s memory.
This legal conflict, full of unanswered questions and unyielding hope, now hinges on the court's decision. Fatima Nafees still believes her son is alive and says she will keep searching for him until her last breath. The ruling will determine if her fight for justice continues or if it reaches a painful pause.
