The owner of a spa in Manimajra, Chandigarh, has been granted bail after being accused of illegally live-streaming clients without their knowledge or consent. The accused, Sandeep Bawa, was booked under Section 77 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint by a female client from Sarangpur. The woman, who had booked an appointment online, reported her suspicions to police during her visit, leading to a formal investigation.

Chandigarh Police found a hidden camera installed at the spa premises, which was reportedly being used to transmit live footage. Although no recording device or hard disk was attachedmeaning no footage was storedauthorities stated that live monitoring without consent constitutes a serious privacy violation under current laws. The spa owner claimed the camera was intended for monitoring employees, but officers noted that it was not located in a staff-only area, intensifying suspicions of misuse.

Sandeep Bawa was arrested during the probe and later released on bail. Officials emphasised that intent and placement of the device played a critical role in the investigation. "The act of live streaming without a person’s knowledge, even without recording, is a breach of privacy and is actionable under the law," a senior police official stated. The case underscores rising concerns over hidden surveillance in private establishments and the legal consequences that may follow. Authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious activity and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting individual privacy rights under BNS provisions. Further legal proceedings are expected as the investigation continues.
