Hemant Soren Sworn in as Jharkhand Chief Minister

Hemant Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was sworn in as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Thursday for his fourth term.

Several major INDIA bloc leaders attended the swearing-in event, which took place in Ranchi’s Morabadi Maidan.

Key leaders including AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal were present at the grand event.

Other attendees included Independent MP Pappu Yadav, Tamil Nadu Deputy CM and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, AAP MP Raghav Chadha, and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann.

The 49-year-old tribal leader was sworn in as Chief Minister by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, who administered the oath of office and secrecy.

Soren’s victory in the recent assembly polls saw the JMM-led alliance secure 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, with the BJP-led NDA winning only 24.

The JMM received achieved its highest-ever tally, with 34 seats out of the 43 it contested.

Additionally, schools in Ranchi city were closed on Thursday to commemorate the swearing-in of the Hemant Soren government.

On Tuesday, Soren met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, his first visit to the city since the alliance won a second consecutive term.
