CAT 2023 Witnesses Record-Breaking 88% Attendance with Over 2.8 Lakh Candidates

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2023, a pivotal examination for management aspirants, saw an impressive 88% attendance, with over 2.8 lakh candidates appearing for the exam on Sunday, November 26. This marked a notable increase from the previous year’s attendance of 86%. The surge in participation can be attributed to the highest-ever registrations recorded for CAT 2023, reaching a staggering 3.3 lakh, compared to 2.56 lakh registrations in the previous year.

IIM Lucknow, the conducting authority for CAT 2023, revealed that the exam took place across 375 test centers spread across 167 cities in India. The competitive test consisted of three sections, with a total of 66 questions. The sections included Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Ability (QA).

The distribution of questions was as follows: 24 questions in VARC, 20 questions in DILR, and 22 questions in QA. All candidates were allotted 40 minutes for each section, while Persons with Disabilities (PWD) candidates were given 53 minutes and 20 seconds. The overall duration of the test was 120 minutes for regular candidates and 160 minutes for PWD candidates.

As the CAT 2023 results are eagerly awaited, it is anticipated that they will be announced in the second week of January 2024. Prior to the result declaration, the official CAT 2023 website (iimcat.ac.in) will host the CAT 2023 answer key, providing candidates with insights into their performance.

The higher attendance in CAT 2023 is seen as a positive trend, offering IIMs and other participating institutes a larger pool of candidates to select from for their management programs. The results of CAT 2023 will play a crucial role in determining the future academic pursuits of these aspiring management professionals, adding to the significance of this record-breaking examination.
