Delhi Education Minister Atishi has instructed the secretary of higher education to begin an investigation into the purported anomalies at Delhi University’s twelve government-funded institutes. According to the minister, there have been “major procedural irregularities” and 1,897 employees— 939 teaching and 958 non-teaching posts— were employed by these institutions without the Delhi government’s approval.
“Major procedural irregularities have surfaced. The colleges appointed a staggering 1,897 employees — 939 teaching and 958 non-teaching posts — without the Delhi government’s approval, violating clearly established government procedures and rules,” said Atishi, as reported by PTI.
She gave the secretary instructions to take legal action against the principals and officials who created the unauthorized roles, including paying back the salary of staff workers who were hired illegally since 2015.
“These colleges are funded by the public exchequer and, therefore, must be held accountable for any misuse of funds,” Atishi said.
She further added that “Contracts worth crores for security and sanitation work were executed without adhering to General Financial and violated accounting norms and the approved “Pattern of Assistance” by the Delhi government,” as reported by PTI.
