Trump's Middle East Visit: Focusing on Business Deals Amid Regional Tensions with Israel and Iran

During his visit to the Middle East this week, U.S. President Donald Trump will visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. While the focus of his trip is on energy-rich nations with Trump-branded real estate projects, his attention will also be drawn to the ongoing regional challenges, particularly regarding Israel and Iran.

Israel is intensifying its military actions in Gaza after ending a ceasefire, worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region. Iran, a rival of Saudi Arabia and an adversary of Israel, is rapidly advancing its nuclear capabilities, which has raised concerns in the international community.

Despite these pressing issues, Trump’s visit will largely center on economic interests and business deals with his Gulf hosts, who are eager to make agreements and offer him hospitality. According to experts, Trump could score a diplomatic win by reassuring these nations of America’s strategic commitment to the region.

However, Trump’s decision to omit Israel from this trip has fueled concerns in Israel about the U.S. prioritizing other regional interests. The U.S. has also faced criticism from Israel after halting strikes on Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, which have targeted Israel.

Iran, meanwhile, remains engaged in nuclear talks with the U.S., but no significant breakthrough has been achieved. With its economy in decline and mounting internal pressures, Iran faces increasing threats from both the U.S. and Israel.

Trump's trip to Qatar, following his visit to Saudi Arabia, comes after a previous diplomatic rift in 2017, known as the Qatar crisis, which was partly sparked by Trump’s remarks. To avoid further tensions, experts suggest that Trump should focus on uniting the Gulf states and addressing the region’s complex issues, including tensions with Iran and Israel, during his visit.
