Strong Rebound in Stock Market After Major Fall; Sensex Jumps 400 Points, These Stocks Rally
Stock Market Today: On Wednesday, 14 May 2025, the stock market opened on a positive note on the third trading day of the week. Amid mixed global cues, the Sensex was trading 175 points higher at 81,323.40 around 9:15 AM, marking a 0.22% gain. Following this, the market gained further momentum, and the Sensex surged by up to 400 points. The Nifty also opened 51.55 points higher at 24,629.90, a rise of 0.21%, and later moved closer to the 24,700 mark.
At the opening bell, metal sector stocks witnessed strong buying interest. Shares of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) rose by 1.5%, while Garden Reach Shipbuilders jumped an impressive 10%.
However, on the downside, shares of Tata Motors declined by 3%.
Asian markets showed a mixed performance. Japan's Nikkei fell 0.57% and the Topix dropped 1.05%. On the other hand, South Korea’s Kospi closed with a minor gain of 0.67%, and the Kosdaq added 0.05%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose by 1.16%, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 benchmark slipped by 0.1%.
A day earlier, on Tuesday, the markets had witnessed a sharp sell-off. The BSE Sensex plunged by 1,282 points to close at 81,148.22, after falling as much as 1,386 points during intraday trading. Out of the 30 Sensex stocks, 25 ended in the red.
Profit-booking in IT and FMCG stocks kept the market under pressure. The Nifty also dropped 346.35 points or 1.39% to close at 24,578.35.
Key losers included Infosys (down 3.54%), along with Power Grid, HCL Tech, TCS, Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Maruti, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra.
However, some stocks like Sun Pharma, Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, and SBI ended in the green.
