Slap or Assault by a Policeman Without Reason is a Crime – Punishment Under BNS Section 111
No policeman has the right to slap or assault a citizen without cause. Such an act is not only misconduct but also a criminal offense. According to Section 111 of the BNS, this offense can lead to a maximum of one year in jail or a fine of up to ₹10,000. In the eyes of the law, both ordinary citizens and uniformed officers are equal.
If such an incident happens to you, the first step should be to file an FIR at the nearest police station. For immediate help, you can call the helpline numbers 100 or 112. These calls are recorded and can be used as evidence in court.
If the local police refuse to register your FIR, you can escalate the matter to the District SP, Police Commissioner, or DGP. You can also approach the Human Rights Commission. And if justice is still denied, filing a petition in court is every citizen’s constitutional right.
