Six Household Staff Arrested After Theft at Sankat Mochan Temple Mahant’s Residence

Three days after a theft at the residence of the Mahant of Sankat Mochan temple, police arrested six members of his household staff following an encounter, officials said Wednesday. Jewellery and cash were stolen from the Mahant Vishwambar Nath Mishra’s home in Tulsi Ghat on Sunday morning. The Mahant, who was in Delhi at the time, reported the theft to police on Monday after returning, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gaurav Bansal stated.

“CCTV footage showed masked individuals entering the premises, and we also questioned the staff,” the DCP added, explaining that police teams were deployed to track down the suspects. Late Tuesday night, the accused were found in the Ramnagar area based on intelligence from surveillance.

“When police raided the site, the suspects fired at them. In response, three accused—Vicky, Jitendra, and Rakesh—were injured in the legs, while the other three surrendered,” Bansal said, confirming all arrested were employees at the Mahant’s residence.

The stolen jewellery, cash, and valuables were recovered, and the three injured suspects were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
