Sanjay Dutt Recounts Chilling Jail Encounter: Razor at His Neck by Double-Murder Convict
In a gripping episode on The Great Indian Kapil Show, veteran actor Sanjay Dutt reflected on a past prison experience that chilled viewers: a double-murder convict nearly shaved his beard and his throat.
Dutt described how the superintendent ordered him to shave while he was incarcerated in Yerwada jail under the Arms Act. A convict named Mishra ji, who had served 15 years for double murder, was assigned the task. As Mishra brought the razor to Dutt’s neck, the actor, ever calm, struck up conversation asking how long he’d been behind bars. Only then did Dutt learn the chilling truth.
Dutt recounted, “By this time, his razor had reached my neck … I immediately held his hand and stopped him. So, a double murder convict had a razor in his hand; that’s just an ordinary day in jail.” The moment, he explained, underlined the unpredictable, tense environment of prison life.
Despite this haunting memory, Dutt said he harbors no regrets about his life his only regret is that his parents, Sunil Dutt and Nargis, passed away too early. Their absence weighs on him deeply, he shared.
Beyond the razor incident, Dutt used his time in jail creatively launching a radio station called Radio YCP, leading a theatre group featuring fellow inmates, and even earning wages through carpentry. It illustrated his resilience and ability to find expression even behind bars.
