Monojit Mishra Tried to Side-step Arrest in Kolkata Gang-Rape Case, Sought Help but Found No Way
The unfaithful and horrifying June 25 gang-rape in Kolkata, the accused, Monojit Mishra, made a fervent attempt to avoid imprisonment. Rather than face the consequences, Monojit told that he aides to keep a close watch on the Kasba Police Station, wish to stay ahead of any movement by law enforcement. That night, while the city slept, his mind raced with fear and calculation.
The next morning, along with co-accused Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, Monojit began reaching out to his circle for help. He made frantic calls to college officials, politically connected seniors, and even a lawyer. But one by one, the responses were cold nobody came to his aid. It became painfully clear that support was slipping away.
Despite having 11 previous FIRs against him, Monojit had always managed to dodge serious consequences. This time, however, his belief that silence from the survivor and a video would protect him proved false. The legal system was already in motion.
Police tracked him down near Ballygunge railway station the following evening. His arrest brought a sense of relief to a shaken city. Officers also recovered crucial forensic proofs, including a stained bed cover from the scene, further strengthening the case.
The failed attempt to avoid justice reminds that silence does not mean security and injustice does not always last. In the hours after the crime, his antics presented a picture of guilt and frustration, not repentance.
As the investigation continues, the focus to make sure justice for the survivor, and that those responsible, no matter how well-connected, are held accountable. This case is a harsh but needed reflection on systemic failure, and the urgent demand for reform, responsibility, and respect.
