Mahindra’s Early Price Drop: Anand Mahindra Says ‘Action, Not Just Promises’
On September 6, Mahindra & Mahindra made headlines by rolling out price cuts on several of its SUV models up to ₹1.6 lakh in savings. The move wasn’t just smart business; it was a statement. Anand Mahindra, the Group Chairman, took to social media to commend the action, boldly stating: “Action. Not just promises.” For many customers, this wasn’t just about lower prices it was about seeing tangible benefits, not waiting till a later date.
The price cuts come in response to the government’s recent GST rate rationalisation set to take effect on September 22. Mahindra became the first automaker to pass those savings on immediately rather than waiting until the official date. That boldness didn’t go unnoticed. In his post, Anand Mahindra tagged his team with a grateful nod: “Thank you, Team @Mahindra_Auto.”
Customers of the XUV3XO (diesel) received the most significant benefit up to ₹1.56 lakh savings thanks to the tax slab dropping from 31% to 18%. Other variants like the XUV3XO (petrol) and Thar 2WD (diesel) saw reductions of ₹1.40 lakh and ₹1.35 lakh respectively. Mahindra also extended benefits to the Bolero/Neo and the Scorpio Classic with loans of ₹1.27 lakh and ₹1.01 lakh. Even larger models like the Scorpio-N, Thar Roxx, and XUV700 are now taxed at 40% (down from 48%), delivering benefits worth ₹1.45 lakh, ₹1.33 lakh, and ₹1.43 lakh accordingly.
Beyond the immediate relief for buyers, the move sent a broader message: incentives should be passed on quickly when policy benefits emerge. Anand Mahindra’s succinct message “action, not just promises” appears to have inspired others. Already, Tata Motors and Toyota have announced similar intentions to pass on GST benefits as they come into effect.
