Rishab Shetty’s much-anticipated Kantara Chapter 1 has created box office ripples across India and beyond. On its fourth day in theatres, this period-mythological action drama surpassed the Rs 300 crore mark in global collections, firmly establishing itself as one of Kannada cinema’s most formidable successes. 

Domestically, Kantara Chapter 1 pulled in around  Rs61 crore net on its Sunday showing, pushing its weekend sum to approximately  Rs 223.25 crore net (268 crore gross). Its surge over the weekend has been called one of the strongest opening runs for any Kannada film in history. 

On the international front, the film also gained significant momentum, with overseas markets contributing sizeable revenues. Some trade analysts estimate that over 6 million dollar was earned abroad during the opening stretch, helping push the global tally to about Rs 325 crore.This milestone places Kantara Chapter 1 ahead of several recent pan India blockbusters  including KGF Chapter 1, Hanuman, and Lokah Chapter 1 in terms of worldwide haul. 

What makes this feat even more striking is that Kantara Chapter 1 is a prequel to the 2022 sleeper hit Kantara, diving deeper into the folklore, mythology, and conflicts hinted at in the original. Despite being rooted in Kannada culture and language, it has found resonance with wider audiences through dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. 

Critics and audiences alike have praised the film’s visuals, narrative ambition, and its blending of myth with social commentary. Its strong box office run suggests that regional films with universal themes can still break out in the crowded cinematic landscape.

As the film continues its theatrical journey, the momentum is strong. If this trend holds, Kantara Chapter 1 may well go on to set even loftier records, and possibly challenge other Indian films across the language barrier for box office supremacy.
