J&K LG Manoj Sinha Hails Public Protests Against Terrorism as Sign of Peace

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday (July 8, 2025) said that increasing public resistance to Pakistan-backed terrorism, including through street protests, signals a positive step toward lasting peace in the Valley. He emphasised that sustainable growth in the tourism sector depends on a stable and secure environment, urging the people of J & K to actively prevent terrorists from gaining support within society.
Speaking at a two-day tourism conference at SKICC, also attended by Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Mr. Sinha highlighted the growing public opposition to terrorism. The people of J & K are speaking up. Street demonstrations against terrorists backed by Pakistan are a strong indication that the region is moving toward peace,” he said in a post on his official X account.

He called on the entire region to unite in ensuring that terrorists are completely uprooted from Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Sinha also noted that the tourism conference reflects J & K's shift toward **peace, development, and prosperity**, crediting **Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership** for the ongoing progress.

Mr. Sinha praised the transformation of the region’s tourism sector over recent years, pointing out that both **traditional tourism circuits** have been reinforced and **new avenues** have been opened. He added that tourism is now reaching remote parts of the Union Territory and positively impacting local communities.

While he acknowledged the critical role of security forces in countering terrorism, he stressed that society also bears responsibility. “Terrorists trying to derive support from within communities must be stopped,” he said.
