Bitchat: Twitter Co-founder Jack Dorsey Launches Internet-Free Messaging App for iPhone Users
Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, has launched a new messaging app called Bitchat for iPhone users, which is now available for download on the Apple App Store. The most unique feature of this app is that it does not require an internet connection to function.
How does Bitchat work?
Bitchat uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Mesh Networking technology instead of the internet. This means it creates a local network between nearby phones within a range of approximately 30 meters. As users move around, their phones automatically act as message-passing stations, allowing messages to travel long distances without internet.
No Sign-up, No Phone Number Required
To use this app, no registration, phone number, or email ID is needed. There is also no central server, meaning your messages stay only on your device and are automatically deleted after some time. All messages on Bitchat are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and security.
Useful in Emergencies
Since Bitchat doesn’t rely on the internet, it can be extremely useful in situations where the internet is down, there is no network, or the government has imposed an internet shutdown, such as during natural disasters or in remote areas.
Security Warning
Although Bitchat is said to be secure, Jack Dorsey has issued a warning on its GitHub page, stating that the app has not yet undergone external security audits and may have vulnerabilities. Therefore, it should not be considered reliable for serious or production use until it has been thoroughly tested.
