In a significant boost to India’s defence manufacturing sector, French aerospace giant Dassault Aviation has partnered with Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) to locally produce fuselage sections of the Rafale fighter jets. A new dedicated facility will be set up in Hyderabad to manufacture the jet’s structural components — including the central fuselage, rear section, front section, and lateral rear shells — for both Indian and international markets. This marks the first time in Rafale's history that such critical parts will be produced outside of France.

The landmark agreement includes the signing of four Production Transfer Agreements, enabling the transfer of technology and manufacturing rights to India. The first fuselage segments are expected to roll out by the financial year 2028, with a production capacity of up to two complete fuselages per month. This collaboration is not only a major milestone for India’s aerospace sector but also aligns with the national objectives of ‘Make in India’ and ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India), aimed at reducing dependency on imports and strengthening domestic capabilities in high-tech defence manufacturing.

Dassault Aviation Chairman and CEO Eric Trappier described the move as a “decisive step” in solidifying their industrial presence in India. Meanwhile, TASL CEO and MD Sukaran Singh hailed it as a testament to India’s growing strength in aerospace manufacturing. He highlighted the deepening trust between global aerospace leaders and Indian partners. This project showcases India's ability to support complex global defence platforms, laying a strong foundation for future collaborations in the sector. With this partnership, India positions itself as a key player in the global defence supply chain, and Hyderabad is set to become a major aerospace manufacturing hub.
