In historic move Indian women cricketers wear pink jerseys in Delhi for cancer awareness
The Indian women’s cricket team will step onto the field wearing pink jersey for the first time ever in order to raise awareness about breast cancer. This special initiative is part of the third and deciding One Day International (ODI) between India and Australia women, hold at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Match time is schedule at 1:30 pm, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur lead the team out in pink at the toss.
The pink jersey move aligns with global effort to highlight breast cancer, similar to Australia’s “Pink Test” at the SCG that honour Jane McGrath and supports the McGrath Foundation. The ODI series between India and Australia currently stand at 1-1, making this decider match even more charge. In the first two match at New Chandigarh’s PCA Stadium in Mullanpur, Australia won the opener, while India bounce back emphatically in the second match, thanks largely to Smriti Mandhana’s explosive 77-ball century which is also India’s fastest ODI ton vs Australia.
This gesture is not just symbolic but add emotional significance ahead of the Women’s World Cup, set to begin on September 30 in Guwahati. With the decider match in the national capital, wearing pink is expect to draw attention both from fan present and the wider audience to promote early detection, awareness, and support for those affect by breast cancer.
