A private helicopter heading toward the pilgrimage site of Kedarnath was forced to make an emergency landing in Guptkashi on Saturday after a technical issue was detected mid-flight. The aircraft, operated by Crestel Aviation Private Limited, was on its way from Sirsi when the pilot noticed an unexpected fault. Acting swiftly, the pilot landed the helicopter safely on a roadside in Rudraprayag district, preventing any risk to the passengers or nearby areas. This precautionary landing occurred before reaching the designated helipad, highlighting the crew’s prompt decision-making under pressure.
According to officials, all individuals on board, including the crew and passengers, are reported safe and unharmed. Dr. V. Murugeshan, Uttarakhand’s Additional Director General of Law and Order, confirmed that no injuries occurred and that the emergency was handled professionally. The Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) commended the pilot for adhering to emergency protocols and ensuring passenger safety. The area was quickly secured, and authorities facilitated assistance following the landing.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed and is expected to initiate an investigation to identify the cause of the technical malfunction. Meanwhile, helicopter services to Kedarnath remain active, with officials assuring the public that all safety measures are being followed diligently.
