Actor Akshay Kumar, previously a Canadian citizen, has been granted Indian citizenship on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day of India. Addressing the development, Kumar expressed his heartfelt sentiments, saying, “Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!” The announcement was made through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, where he also shared the registration document.

Kumar, who had faced criticism for his Canadian citizenship, emphasized his deep connection with India. He mentioned that the country holds immense significance in his life, as it is where he garnered his success and fortune. He also acknowledged the opportunity to give back to the nation. In an interview with news channel Aajtak, Kumar revealed his disappointment at being questioned about his loyalty to the country without proper understanding of his sentiments.

The process of obtaining Indian citizenship had commenced in 2019, but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In his statement, he mentioned his application for changing his passport and his intention to renounce his Canadian citizenship.

In the realm of entertainment, Akshay Kumar’s latest release, “OMG” 2, featuring co-stars Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, hit theaters recently. The actor’s newfound Indian citizenship is expected to resonate positively with his fans and admirers.
