4th Summons To Arvind Kejriwal

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has called Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for interrogation in the Delhi liquor policy case for the fourth time. He has been summoned to testify before the investigative agency on January 18.

This comes after Arvind Kejriwal missed the January 3 interrogation, claiming that the summons issued by the ED were invalid and that their sole purpose was to arrest him.

Mr Kejriwal, who is also the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) head, declined to appear before the inquiry agency on two previous summonses, on November 2 and December 21, respectively.

The Central Bureau of Investigation questioned the AAP chief about the matter in April, but the agency did not charge him.

Ever since the Enforcement Directorate issued the initial summons, there has been widespread anticipation that the Delhi chief minister will be detained following his interview.

With three of its leaders behind jail (Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Satyendra Jain), the AAP has long anticipated the possibility and has planned several courses of action. They even want Mr Kejriwal to continue as Chief Minister and execute his work from jail.

The CBI claims that liquor companies were engaged in developing the excise policy, which would have earned them a 12% profit. The “South Group” liquor lobby had paid bribes, some of which were directed to state personnel. The Enforcement Directorate alleged that the kickbacks had been laundered.

The BJP claims that the AAP utilized the revenues of the alleged fraud to support its large-scale campaign in Gujarat, where it received 12.91 percent of the vote and established itself as a national party.
