R. K. Singh, the union minister for new and renewable energy and power, announced the clearance of a 4,000MW renewable energy power project for Tamil Nadu in a major development to improve renewable energy infrastructure in the state.

The project is expected to strengthen the green energy corridor program and hasten the implementation of sustainable energy alternatives.

In response to a question in the Rajya Sabh, the Union Minister stated that the project, which is part of the Green Energy Corridor Phase-II, has been sanctioned for the construction of 624 km of transmission lines and 2200 MVA capacity substations, with a completion date of 2025-26.

This groundbreaking project, with an estimated cost of 719.76 crore, has been approved by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The national government has granted a grant of Rs. 237.52 crore to help the state’s renewable energy ambitions, paying 33% of the entire project cost.

The project is being implemented by the state agency Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (TANTRANSCO), according to the ministry.

TANTRANSCO reported the completion of a sanctioned project for setting up of 1068 km transmission lines and 1910 MVA capacity substations on 31 October 2022 under Green Energy Corridor Phase-I, for which the ministry has already issued a grant of Rs. 524.30 crore to TANTRANSCO, it added.
