Traffic on Russia-Built Crimea Bridge Disrupted After “Emergency” Incident

Traffic on the bridge connecting Crimea to Russia’s Krasnodar region has been suspended due to an “emergency” incident, causing disruptions in transportation, according to officials and state media. The bridge, which plays a crucial role in supplying Russian soldiers in Ukraine, serves as a vital link between the two regions.

Sergei Aksyonov, the governor of Crimea appointed by Russia, announced on Telegram that traffic on the Crimean bridge had been stopped due to an emergency near the 145th pillar from the Krasnodar Territory. The Russian transport ministry stated on Telegram that the roadway on the Crimea side of the bridge had suffered damage but did not provide further details regarding the cause.

Law enforcement agencies and relevant services are actively working to address the situation, as reported by Aksyonov. However, no additional information has been provided at this time.

According to the authorities in Krasnodar, cited by Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency, traffic was congested up to approximately 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) from the bridge entrance, without specifying the side. One minor was reported injured during the incident, as confirmed by the local health ministry in Krasnodar.

While pro-military bloggers and Russian media have claimed that two explosions occurred on the bridge early Monday, these reports have not been immediately verified by AFP.

Ferry services between Crimea and Kuban have been temporarily suspended, as stated by local authorities in Krasnodar reported by Russia’s TASS news agency. The Grand Service Express mentioned that train schedules to Crimea may be subject to changes due to the emergency.

In light of the situation, Oleg Kryuchkov, an advisor to the governor of Crimea, has advised all tourists currently in the vicinity to remain in their accommodations whenever possible.
