Over 1,000 Educational Institutions Damaged in Ukraine, 180 Schools Completely Demolished

As of Yesterday [26 July 2023], 180 schools have been completely demolished. According to the Ministry of Education and Science president, over 1,000 educational institutions have been damaged, and over 300 have been completely destroyed. These institutions are being evaluated to see if they can be reconstructed.

The Ukrainian government, he continued, has set aside UAH 1.5 billion, or around $40,820,000, to outfit shelters in time for the start of the new school year.

“The students’ return is our top concern, and we are starting classes again wherever we can. In oblasts near the battle zone, education will be provided online,” the minister concluded.

According to him, the ministry also advises that institutions return to traditional classroom settings in order to meet security requirements because doing so will raise academic standards.

Lisovyi also noted that while many colleges and universities might set up shelters, not all could hold all students.

The migration of teachers, which could present a barrier to the restoration of full-time schooling, has been another issue facing Ukraine’s educational system, according to the Minister of Education and Science. As a result, the decision to resume traditional classroom instruction will be up to the administrators of higher education institutions.
