Noida Woman Loses Over Rs 13 Lakh in ‘Like and Subscribe’ YouTube Job Scam

A woman from Noida, residing in the Panchsheel Hynish Society of Greater Noida, has fallen victim to a cybercrime scam, losing Rs 13 lakh after accepting a deceptive “work-from-home job offer” related to liking and subscribing to YouTube videos. The scammers, communicating via WhatsApp and Telegram, promised her earnings ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 5,000 per day for performing specific tasks related to YouTube videos.

The Deceptive Scheme

Initially, the scammers credited her account with Rs 150 for simple tasks, but as her involvement deepened, they enticed her to invest in Nasdaq with the promise of profitable returns. As she followed their instructions, they continued to demand money under various pretexts, making her invest in multiple transactions. Each time, they assured her that it would be the last task, manipulating her trust and emotions.

Deceptive Transactions and Loan Burden

Feeling trapped and hoping to retrieve her money, the woman continued complying with the scammers’ demands. She borrowed personal loans in her husband’s name to meet their requests. However, the fraudsters kept demanding more funds, falsely claiming that she needed to reach a certain payment threshold before receiving her earnings.

Realization and Police Complaint

Upon realizing they had been deceived, the woman and her husband lodged a complaint with the police. The scammers have been booked under the Information Technology (Amendments) Act, 2008, for cheating.

Rising Incidents of YouTube Scams

This incident is part of a growing trend of fraud targeting individuals seeking lucrative income opportunities through liking and subscribing to YouTube videos. Several others have fallen prey to similar scams, losing significant amounts of money.

The case of the Noida woman losing over Rs 13 lakh in the ‘Like and Subscribe’ YouTube job scam serves as a warning against online frauds that prey on unsuspecting individuals seeking easy income opportunities. It highlights the importance of staying vigilant and cautious while engaging in online activities and not falling for enticing offers that may lead to financial losses.
