Manipur Violence: A gunfight occurs in Imphal West

The Supreme Court ordered Manipur’s government on Monday to submit a report detailing steps taken to stop the bloodshed and relief and rehabilitation measures within a week.

Authorities said a gunfight broke out between two gatherings in Manipur’s Imphal West locale on Monday.

The episode occurred close to Shantipur town, they said.

There were no reports of any setback, authorities said.

They added that security powers were conveyed nearby to handle what is going on.

Conflicts originally broke out in the state after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was coordinated in the slope regions on May 3 to challenge the Meitei people group’s interest in Booked Clan (ST) status. Until this point, more than 100 have kicked the bucket and a few hundred were harmed, other than thousands taking safe houses in help camps. Meiteis represent around 53% of Manipur’s populace and live for the most part in the Imphal Valley. Ancestral Nagas and Kukis comprise another 40% of the populace and dwell in the slope areas.
