Dharmendra Pradhan Addresses Western Zone Vice Chancellors’ Conference 

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, was the chief guest at the Western Zone Vice Chancellors’ Conference on the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020. Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Shri Bhupendra Patel, along with the State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Primary, Secondary, and Adult Education, Higher Education, Law, Justice, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs, and Health and Family Welfare, Shri Rushikesh Patel, and Chairman, all graced the occasion.

Shri Pradhan praised the Gujarat Government and Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda for organizing the first zonal-level conference to accelerate the ground implementation of NEP 2020.

He emphasized the journey from 2022’s Shiksha Samagam in Kashi to the current conference in Narmada, which will play a crucial role in India’s brighter future. Priority areas of NEP include Bharatiya Bhasha, Bharatiya Gyan Parampara, Skilling, Employment, and entrepreneurship education.

Pradhan expressed confidence that the conference will foster a new culture and best practices of multidisciplinary education, ensuring equitable opportunities for all.

He expressed his happiness that the zonal conference is deliberating on several priority areas of NEP, particularly on the Quality of education, Skilling ecosystem in education, Research, innovation & entrepreneurship in education, Bharatiya Gyan Parampara, and internationalization. He hoped that the approaches, thoughts, and roadmap germinated from here would be converted into a compendium of best practices & case studies and passed on at the college level to pave the way for a uniform approach to NEP implementation.

During the conference, many technical sessions were held, such as panel discussions on the following topics: creating a synergy between education and the skilled future workforce; access to high-quality education and governance in higher education; equitable and inclusive education issues of socioeconomically disadvantaged groups (SEDGs); innovation and entrepreneurship; research and development; internationalization of education; and the Indian knowledge system.

Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, UGC; Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE; Prof. Vijay Kumar Srivastava, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda; Dr. Hasmukh Adhia; and other dignitaries, Vice Chancellors, and distinguished educationists were in attendance.

Later in the day, Shri Pradhan visited the iconic Statue of Unity in Kevadia and called it a symbol of pride, unity, peace, and gratitude. A tribute to the ‘Iron Man of India’ and his statesmanship, the Statue of Unity—the world’s tallest monument is a must-visit for all travel enthusiasts, he added.
