China’s President Xi Jinping Likely to Skip G20 Summit in Delhi

According to people acquainted with the situation in India and China who spoke to Reuters, China’s President Xi Jinping is likely to skip the upcoming G20 Summit taking place in Delhi. The newly constructed Bharat Mandapam international conference and exposition hall at Pragati Maidan will host the G20 Leaders’ Summit from September 9 to 10.

One of the biggest meetings of world leaders to ever take place in India is the Summit. Premier Li Qiang is anticipated to represent Beijing at the September 9–10 summit in New Delhi, according to two Indian officials, one diplomat stationed in China, and one official employed by a government of another G20 nation, according to the Reuters story.

Recent discussions between President Xi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the fringes of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg focused on easing tensions in their bilateral relationship, which worsened after hostilities near their Himalayan border in 2020 that claimed the lives of 24 soldiers.

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, has also expressed his inability to attend the G20 Summit, which will be held on September 9–10 in India, and he has stated that Sergey Lavrov will represent Russia at the summit.

Among the world leaders who will be in India for the G20 Summit are US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

President Biden will reportedly stay at the ITC Maurya Sheraton. A special lift will be erected to transport the President to his room on the 14th level, and secret service commandos will be stationed on each floor of the hotel. 400 or more hotel rooms have been reserved for this purpose. The G20 delegates will be housed in about 23 hotels in Delhi and nine in the NCR.

In order to service hotel guests, the Delhi health department has organized 80 teams of physicians and nurses. 75 of these teams will work in shifts, according to officials’ statements from Wednesday.
