Haryana resolves Ayushman payments to hospitals, averting service withdrawal

In response to a looming crisis, Haryana’s State Health Agency took decisive action by releasing fresh funds on August 4, 2025, and restarting claim payments to empanelled hospitals. This move came just days before nearly 650 private hospitals had threatened to withdraw services under the Ayushman Bharat scheme due to ₹500 crore in unpaid reimbursements.

Timely payments began immediately, processing claims submitted up to the first week of May 2025 using a FIFO (first-in, first-out) system. Since the scheme’s launch, approximately ₹2,900 crore has been disbursed, including ₹240.6 crore in the current financial year alone. SHA emphasised transparency: claims are reviewed by a team of 50 doctors on the NHA platform, with clear rules for deductions and opportunities for hospitals to appeal alongside over 400 grievances resolved through the CGRMS 2.0 portal. According to the IMA Haryana chapter, hospitals had received only 10–15% of billed amounts since March. That chronic delay created severe financial strain some facilities were forced to dip into reserves or delay patient care. With timely payments now underway, the threat of service withdrawal was addressed at its root. Healthcare providers expressed relief that the government had heard their protest and acted. Yet many hospitals noted that unless all pending dues are fully cleared, they may still suspend non-emergency services from August 7 onwards. Ministerial statements pledged continuing support and further engagement with the IMA to avoid future disruption.

For patients especially the poor who rely on free medical facilities up to ₹5 lakh per year under AB‑PMJAY the restoration of timely payments means access to lifesaving medical care remains unchanged in Haryana. However, the swift resolution underscores that when payments are timely, trust and continuity in healthcare delivery can be maintained.
